FOR THE LOVE OF A MUSTACHE!

Hello Ladies:  Welcome to Tea Cup Tuesday No. 223!  Hope you are had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, filled with family and friends.  My weekend has been full, but I love that! I did manage to go to an estate sale which was fun.  I will show you the pictures, next week.  This week I want to share with you some of my Mustache Cup collection.  There is an old English Proverb that reads: " A man without a mustache is like a cup of tea without sugar."

My husband purchased my first Mustache cup in 1989.  I had never seen anything like that before. I thought the cup was very unique.  I later learned that everyone made these cups.  Although hard to find, a good antique house will always have one.  One of the things I find most interesting about these cups are the designs.  This one is, by R.S. Prussia, Since that country not longer exists, the beautiful china they produced has become highly collectible and very valuable. Notice the rose design on this cup.  I don't know about your house but roses would not be the husband's first choose for a cup.  These cups were a must have for every gentlemen.

Mustache cups with mottoes were quite the fad in the late nineteen century. One common example was the "Father Cup."  A cup with a motto on it does not really increase your cup's value,  I just think they are much more fun to collect.  This "Father's Cup" was made in Bavaria. Think about how fun it would be to give as a gift!

Take a look at the very ornate, pink cup.  It is very dainty bone china, and so very pink.  What I have learned is that every gentlemen had the china maker, who would customize their cup to fit their mustache. That makes this cup all the more interesting.  It is quite beautiful.  It is German and is marked 6661/2, interesting!   The cup is very ornate.

As you can see I have several in my collection and also have some in boutique to sell.  (As I said before, I am thinning out my collection.!)

Here is a picture of Sophia at ballet, while Noah is taking a Starbucks break (apple juice), but he love to tell me it's coffee.  Thanks for stopping by.
JUST HEARD FROM OUR DEAR TERRI, SHE WILL NOT BE POSTING THIS WEEK, SHE IS OUT OF TOWN. IT IS JUST ME THIS WEEK, STILL HOPE YOU STOP BY FOR A WHILE.  Sorry about the link, it just was not working for me the other way today!

Hugs, Martha

Dainty tea cups and moustachioed men do seem somewhat incongruous! The ones you have shown us are very pretty. Interesting that the modern disposable cup, as modelled so well by Noah, solves the problem, and can be used by all.
Sophie looks absolutely adorable.

Aren't those cups so ornate for the gentlemen? But I suppose they matched the rest of the ladies tea sets, quite wonderful really. I can't imagine my husband with such a dainty cup. Thanks for sharing them.
Once again, great pics of Noah and Sophie being kids :)

Hello Dear Martha....Imagine the ingenuity of creating a mustache cup! I had never known about them before I met you. So unique (both you and the cups!)

Love photos of the adorable grandchildren.

Hope your week is delightful, Martha. Susan

I have never owned a mustache though I have seen a few. You have quite the collection. I suppose in the era when these cups were made it wasn't unusual for gentlemen to drink from such ornate cups.
Nowadays just give them a starbucks paper cup.... sigh.......

Oh, Martha, I have so missed being a part of your Tuesday tea party. As I mentioned in a comment yesterday, I have begun a new blog---dedicated to beautiful, home-centered things---so I'll be joining you again. I've linked up today for the first time in a couple years.

I do not own any mustache cups. In fact, I had never even seen one until about 6 years ago when I was browsing an antique mall. I know my husband prefers a sturdy mug for his coffee and tea; however, maybe that is just what society has conditioned men to want these days, because I vividly remember my grandfather drinking tea and coffee from delicate rose-adorned teacups. They were not mustache cups though...then again, he didn't have a mustache to worry about.

Anyhow, as always, the photos of the grands are delightful. What cute kiddos they are. And what a blessing that they live close and you are able to see them often.

Have a lovely day.

Love,
Patti

Hi Martha,
You have a wonderful collection of mustache cups. My hubby has always had a mustache but I don't have a mustache cup for him. Somehow I don't think he would use it anyway. Your little ones are so cute. I'm glad you enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend. Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day.

Blessings,
Sandi

Hi Martha. I love moustache cups! I have my British Victorian grandfathers's. Fun aren't they? Always something new. Great collection!

Hi Martha! Love all your mustache cups - I only have two and they are more masculine. I don't know why a fella would order up a dainty pink mustache cup for himself. Sorry to hear about Terri out of town - hope all is well. Thanks for hosting - even though you struggle with the mechanics of the whole affair.
Joy!

I will have to look for these Martha! How interesting. I know of one cup in a thrift store in town that looks like this and I thought it was a shaving mug. I will have to go and get a better look! Thanks for having us over.

Dear Martha,
I must laugh when I saw this very ornated mustache cups. It was my first thought that they are unusal feminine. Maybe some of the ladies had a mustache also? But they are all quite treasures. Thank you for sharing this great collection and for hosting this sweet event.
Best greetings, Johanna
